The Association for Higher Education And Development Fellowship

The Association for Higher Education and Development (AHEAD) based in Ottawa, Canada, was established in 1999 to organize, coordinate and channel the contributions of Ethiopians in the Diaspora to assist in the capacity building of higher academic institutions in Ethiopia. AHEAD supports financially bursary programs for medical students in Gondar, Addis Ababa and Jimma. The program is administered by the GBF.
AHEAD was also instrumental in getting funds from the Canadian Embassy in Ethiopia that helped establish in Jimma town a Resource Centre. AHEAD President Temesghen Hailu said that the Jimma Resource Centre is a partnership initiative between the Canadian Embassy, GBF and Ahead. He hoped that other Ethiopian communities would follow the AHEAD example to work in partnership with local organizations in undertaking projects that respond to the needs of Ethiopians. The GBF-AHEAD Higher Education Resource Center in Jimma The Resource Center was established in May, 2002 by GBF in collaboration with the Association of Higher Education and Development (AHEAD) and with financial support of the Canadian Embassy in Ethiopia. The Center’s aim is to serve as a reading room and information center for medical students and staff of Jimma University.
